Book on ATLAS.ti

Content:

Provisional title: Doing qualitative research with ATLAS.ti.
Author: Dr. Susanne Friese
Publisher: SAGE Publication.
Expected publication date: early 2011.

The book will provide ATLAS.ti users and those who want to learn and teach the software a guide on how to conduct an ATLAS.ti project from start to finish.
The book combines methodological with technical aspects in explaining on how to conduct computer-aided qualitative data analysis. The reader will find a comprehensive guide starting with the issue of data preparation, how to set up a project, how to develop a coding system, how to ask questions, find answers and present results.
The contents of the book are based on 15 years of experience in using the software in various research projects, in teaching the software and in providing support to numerous projects. Over time, I have developed a systematic way on how to work with the software, a method of computer-aided qualitative data analysis. The software just offers a multitude of functions, but does not “tell” users how to utilize them. The approach I have developed has been used successfully by a number of Ph.D students I consulted and MA and BA students I tought in qualitative method classes.
My way of thinking about qualitative methods is largely influenced by Grounded Theory Methodology and this is in part also reflected in the book. It is however not restricted to this approach.
A further aim of the book is to provide information on how to conduct a project for single user as well as for team projects from start to finish. I will provide examples based on different methodological traditions, however, will exclude advanced features that are only necessary for very specific projects. My aim is not to prescribe the ‘correct’ way to use ATLAS.ti, but will be showing how the software can be used, both in terms of functionality, and also in terms of enhancing the learning process of qualitative research.

Neue ATLAS.ti Quick Tour (http://www.atlasti.com/de/quicktour.html)

Inhalt:
